Designed within a compact 40 m² footprint, this Kuluin secondary dwelling creates a private and independent living environment alongside the existing home.
The dwelling is oriented towards its own secluded courtyard, with expansive glazing bringing natural light into the primary living spaces while maintaining privacy from the main residence. High raked ceilings increase the sense of volume, while highlight windows capture views towards the surrounding tree canopy in the distance and draw additional light into the interior.
Simple, efficient planning ensures the limited floor area is used effectively without compromising comfort or amenity. The result demonstrates how considered building design can create a generous sense of space within a restrained footprint.
The project received a 2024 regional award for small dwelling design.
