Zelena Residence transforms the existing home through considered additions and reconfiguration, creating a light-filled, energy-conscious and flexible family home designed for long-term living.

Originally a modest three-bedroom, one-bathroom home with a single garage, Zelena Residence has been reimagined as a spacious two-storey family home designed around flexible, multi-generational living.
A key focus of the renovation was reconnecting the home with its private north-facing rear yard. The kitchen, dining and living spaces were reorganised to open towards the new pool and outdoor living areas, strengthening the connection between inside and out while taking advantage of the home’s northern orientation.
Energy efficiency was a driving factor from the outset. Early consultation with a Thermal Performance Assessor helped inform key design decisions around orientation, glazing, shading and the building envelope, allowing thermal performance to be considered as part of the design process rather than addressed retrospectively.
With the existing dwelling constrained by 2400mm ceilings, a new double-height void was introduced over the dining area to bring volume and natural light into the heart of the home. The void creates a strong visual connection between the existing ground floor and new upper level while giving the previously constrained living spaces a greater sense of openness.
The ground floor now accommodates the primary living areas and a new master suite, supporting long-term living on a single level. Above, the second-storey addition provides the secondary bedrooms and a multi-purpose room, creating separation and flexibility for children, guests and extended family.
Externally, strong gabled forms, lightweight coastal cladding, stone accents, warm timber elements and generous glazing give the original dwelling an entirely new identity, while the double-height glazing expresses the volume and light created within.
